View of Jung-gu, Busan

In 2016, I moved to Busan, South Korea to be a EFL (English as a Foreign Language) teacher. I was hired by a fairly famous sometimes infamous Korean hagwon. A hagwon (학원) also translated as academy is a for profit private educational institution. They are also sometimes called cram schools.

I arrived in August of 2016, and before I was to start work I was required to go through a 2 week training period. During my training period, the school had me stay in a hotel in Jung-gu, the old downtown of Busan. I took this photograph from my hotel window.

In the distance you can see Busan Bay and Busan Harbor Bridge. The small mountain in the distance is Yeongdo-go, one of South Korea’s many islands.
